Dear Mom and Dad...

Exams can bring out the best and the worst in all of us. For parents, it’s a season of sleepless nights, anxious waiting, and quiet prayers. For children, it’s often a whirlwind of worksheets, pressure, and self-doubt.
But in the middle of all the tension, your child needs your belief more than your criticism.
Dear Mom and Dad, please remember,
🌱 Growth doesn’t happen in straight lines
A child’s progress isn’t a straight climb upwards. Some days, they soar; other days, they stumble. What matters is not how fast they reach the top, but how safely they learn to stand up again after each fall.
When your child makes mistakes or scores lower than expected, it doesn’t mean they aren’t trying. It means they’re still learning. Every “I don’t know” is an opportunity to teach resilience, not regret.
Dear Mom and Dad, I hope you can,
💬 Replace “Why can’t you get it right?” with “Let’s try again together.”
Our words shape how our children see themselves. A single phrase of encouragement can turn fear into motivation.
Instead of:
“You always forget this!”
Try:
“You’re getting better at this each time.”
Instead of:
“You need to score higher.”
Try:
“I’m proud of how much effort you’re putting in.”
Small shifts in language can build trust, confidence, and self-worth. These are what matter far more than a single exam result.
Dear Mom and Dad, I hope you understand that
💖 Your presence matters more than perfection
Sometimes, the best thing you can do isn’t to explain another math concept or mark another paper. It’s to simply sit beside your child, without judgment and comparison, and remind them that no grade could ever measure their worth.
Children remember how we made them feel long after they forget the content of their textbooks. Be the calm in their storm. Be their safe place.
🌈 Beyond the exam
At The OpenVillage Project, we believe that education should empower, not exhaust. When the exams end, take time to rest, reconnect, and rediscover learning beyond the pages through conversations, stories, and play. The true goal isn’t to raise perfect scorers, but lifelong learners with kind hearts.
✨ A gentle reminder to all parents
You’re doing your best. Your child is doing their best. And sometimes, that’s more than enough.
Don’t give up on your child. Don’t give up on yourself either. Because every small act of patience today builds a future full of confidence, curiosity, and love.
